Fleurty Girl: Blogger Pitch

For the Social Media lab at DePaul University (Winter 2014) with adjunct professor and SVP of Digital Strategy at Ketchum, Ben Foster, each student was to apply what they had learned from the blog unit and create a blogger pitch.  For this assignment, I chose a business based in New Orleans known for its original t-shirt designs called Fleurty Girl.  I researched New Orleans bloggers with an interest both fashion and start-up businesses, and found the perfect match in Scott Simon of iheartnola.com.  For a description of Fluerty Girl, and more detail on why I chose this blogger, click here.

Hi Scott,

As you are aware, New Orleans is known not only for its individuality, but is also famous for its temptations. One such enticement is an intriguing boutique just a stone’s throw away from Buffalo Exchange on Magazine Street. It is simply a local business of modest origin, which takes on the larger than life uniqueness of New Orleans.

Fleurty Girl has been built from the ground-up by founder Lauren Thom. Determined to make her dream a reality, Lauren launched her business buy using her 2009 tax return to sell her t-shirt designs online. Six months later, she turned the front of her shotgun house on Oak Street into her first physical store. Today, she has expanded to four NOLA area locations with almost all products being created and/or designed by local artisans. Lauren continues to include her own t-shirt designs within store inventory, however only locals will understand her use of “Makin’ Groceries” and “Zink”.

Lauren’s start-up business mission is one that would easily relate to your stories, especially the one you previously featured on Dirty Coast. If you find yourself wandering down Magazine Street, pop into her store and take a moment to sample this little taste of NOLA culture for yourself. As you are a respected blogger uncovering the hidden gems of NOLA, I think your readers will be interested in your commentary of Fleurty Girl.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you have a fun Mardi Gras!

Laissez les bon temps rouler,

Lindsey Barber
